Its like arguing tornado numbers.
There are more reported tornados cuz we detect tornados at a much higher rate than ever before and the internet keeps the rubes riled up with this supposed deadly spike in numbers.
20 years ago even you wouldn't hear anything about a tornado unless it was a massive outbreak big killer type shit or in the broadcast radius of your TV station or newspaper.
Perception matters a great deal to humans.
Much to our detriment sometimes.
